HOG WASH™ Testimonials

Effective Hog Lagoon Odor Reduction, Barn Odor Reduction, and Water Treatment Process

Luthi Farm, LLC

Luthi Family Farm of Fargo, Oklahoma has been using the HOG WASH™ program since August 1998. We operate a 3,650 swine farrowing unit with a two-stage lagoon.

Our barns are designed with a pull-plug system. The pits are pulled weekly with the effluent draining into the first stage lagoon and then flowing into the second stage lagoon. From the second stage lagoon, the liquid is recycled into the pits in the barns and also pumped through a center pivot onto the fields, which has resulted in crop yields double that of commercial fertilizer on both wheat and feed crops. There has been a reduction of residual odor with the handling of the effluent.

We have experienced a reduction in the odor in the lagoons with the lagoons maintaining a red color. Inside the barns, the HOG WASH™ treatment is added and the result has been a reduction of manure build-up along with less flies and gnats and less odor from the barns.

In using HOG WASH™, we realized the benefits of maintaining the pH in the water and lagoon. By monitoring the pH for the lagoons, we saw benefits in the weight gain of baby pigs, reduction of the severity of E. coli scours which also lowered pre-wean mortality from scours.

We have had a very good impact on the odor reduction and the feedback from employees, neighbors, and contractors has been very positive. We are very satisfied with the HOG WASH™ program both in the costs and the results.

Chuck and Wathina Luthi

"My main concern was the odor of the lagoons, and over the course of time, we have seen a drastic change in color in our 2nd stage that happened last year, and after the warm weather set in this year, it turned red pretty quick. Of course, after that the odor went down tremendously. What we're seeing now in our first stage lagoon is a color change, and right along with that, a reduction in surface build-up of crust and a reduction in odor which is pleasing."
